The Broughton United Free Church was built in 1846 and is where John Buchan’s father, the Reverend John Buchan was minister, and has for the past 20 years served as a museum commemorating the life of John Buchan, a renowned politician and novelist who wrote well known novels such as The Thirty-Nine Steps and Greenmantle. The museum has recently vacated the building for new premises, providing an ideal opportunity for someone to convert the building to either commercial or residential purposes.
The church extends to about 222 square metres and has retained many of its original features, including stained glass windows, domed ornate ceilings with exposed beams and original floors and doors. Planning permission has not been sought for conversion to residential use but if granted, the church could be transformed into a charming home with plenty of character. Alternatively, subject to change of use, it could be converted into a café / gallery or alternative commercial use. The building is not currently listed.
To the front of the church is a gravel parking area, with prominent road frontage.
